Abstract

Many cultural practices used in common corn cultivation are adopted in popcorn cultivation. There are not many cultivation criteria specifically established for its cultivation. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the production components, productivity and physiological quality of popcorn seeds, as a function of the spacing between plant rows in the field. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, and the treatments consisted of five spacings between rows: 0.40, 0.50, 0.60, 0.70 and 0.80 m, with four replicates. The plants were evaluated for their height, stem diameter, number of seeds per ear, number of rows per ear, number of seeds per row, mass of a thousand seeds, productivity and the seeds produced were evaluated for germination, seedling emergence, seedling length and determination of the moisture content. From the general analysis of the results obtained, it can be verified that there was no statistical difference for the determined variables in relation to the different spacings between planting rows used. Through the results obtained, it was concluded that the germination and vigor of popcorn seeds, originating from plants grown in spacings.
